The PGDE is affiliated to the following Universities:

  1. North Central and South South (University of Ilorin)
  2. North East (University of Maiduguri)
  3. North West (Usmanu Danfodio University)
  4. South East (Nnamdi Azikwe University Awka)
  5. South West (University of Ibadan)

The objectives of the programme are to:

  • Equip students with the necessary pedagogical skills to function as qualified and competent teachers;
  • Prepare the students adequately to be able to manage classrooms effectively;
  • Develop in the students an understanding of what learning is, and how children learn and thereby make learning an interesting and pleasant activity for children and enhance critical thinking;
  • Provide students with in-depth knowledge of the philosophical bases of education so that they can function effectively as professional teachers;
  • Equip students with the required knowledge and skills involved in curriculum processes and reform;
  • Enable students acquire theoretical knowledge in educational research; so that they can undertake educationally-related research exercises in the classroom.
